About Me
A little bit about me...
Hello, my name is Madison Scull, though I usually go by Madie. I currently reside in Westminster, Colorado as an undergraduate student. My undergraduate degree is focused on electrical engineering with a minor in Spanish. I then am going to pursue a master’s degree in biomedical engineering. Professionally, I have been designated to perform managerial and leadership taks regularly. Most recently, I was put in charge of designing and opening a cafe inside of the retirement home that I worked for. Though that wasn't a leadership position in an engineering setting, the skills translate to other areas. Additionally, I excel in laboratory settings. I am very comfortable working with the specimen "Tetrahymena", measuring microscopic pictures using ImageJ, and sequencing DNA with the NCBI database. Lastly, I have extensive knowledge in prototype mockups; both physical and computer-generated.
My interests...
Engineering was always a grasping field for me because it requires combining logistics, art, and creativity to create solutions. Even more so, engineering is the epitome of innovation. I've always been interested in what engineering can do for medical advancements. My mother had cancer, so I spent my fair share of time in hospitals. I was always fascinated on how all the treatments and equipment had worked. It was amazing to me that we can see internally with scans such as an MRI or how chemotherapy targets cancer cells. This setting helped foster my love for STEM subjects at school and as a result, my curiosity only got larger. In turn, this grew my interest in bioengineering and my want to spend time in a research lab attempting to solve major medical issues. Eventually it made me pursue combining the electrical and biomedical engineering fields to make medical discoveries in tissue engineering. Outside of engineering, I also have a few other hobbies. I love all animals and spend a lot of my free time learning new facts about their care and enrichment activities. I even have my own "mini farm". Additionally, I enjoy travelling and have been to twenty-seven states. I think traveling is very important as it is educational and fun. I also enjoy the new experiences and immersing myself in new cultures.
Future endeavors...
Once I complete all of my schooling, I hope to be hired at a medically-focused engineering firm. Laboratory settings are most interesting to me, but I would enjoy working in a variety of areas. Within five years time, it is my goal to be working on a project that would change healthcare for the better. Perhaps a brand new medical advancement, or an updated and more efficient improvement on a current design.
